Chowan, Gates, Pasquotank, and Perquimans Counties are excited to host the Four Feathers 4-H Chicken Project! This program gives youth the opportunity to learn about poultry care, responsibility, and showmanship, culminating in the Chicken Show on October 23, 2025, at the Albemarle Area 4-H Livestock Arena in Elizabeth City, NC.

Registration is open now and closes on April 17, 2025. The registration fee is $15 per participant, payable to your local Extension Office. Registration is not complete until payment is made. To register, please visit go.ncsu.edu/four-feathers

Youth can compete in one or more of the following categories:

  • Breeding Class (Ages 8+): Participants will receive two Easter Egger chicks in May to raise for the show.
  • Best in Show (Ages 8+): Youth will enter one personal hen of any breed.
  • Showmanship (Ages 5+): Youth may enter their own hen or a provided Easter Egger. Judging is based on knowledge, presentation, and handling of poultry.

Important Dates

  • April 17, 2025: Registration closes
  • Week of May 5, 2025: Easter egger chick pickup
  • October 23, 2025: Chicken Show (Check-in: 5:00–6:00 p.m., Show starts at 6:30 p.m.)
  • November 10, 2025: Record books due to your local extension office by 5:00 p.m.

Awards will be presented in each category. Participants must complete a Project Record Book (due by November 10, 2025) to be eligible for prizes.
